If the government or 'public administration' wants to take enforcement action, it can use powers within so-called administrative criminal law. Examples include an administrative fine, an order for periodic penalty payments and revocation of licences under BIBOB legislation.

The procedures are of an administrative law nature, making specialist knowledge of administrative law essential. Examples include the submission of an opinion, or a notice of objection or appeal. In terms of content, the supervisory body not infrequently uses information that has emerged in a criminal investigation.
